Executive Artistic Director

The Flatwater Shakespeare Company, based in Lincoln, Nebraska, is pleased to announce that Becky Boesen is its new Executive Artistic Director. She succeeds founding Artistic Director Bob Hall in the leadership of the not-for-profit organization.

Becky Boesen is an award-winning director, playwright, and actor with over twenty years experience in local and regional theatre.  she is the recipient of three Mayor’s Arts Awards in recognition of her socially-minded and thought provoking work in Lincoln. She is also a Nebraska Individual Artist Fellowship Award Winner, a former artist in residence at the Kimmel Harding Nelson for the Arts and kaneko, and her dynamic theatrical creations and collaborations have garnered multiple awards from prestigious organizations, including the National Endowment for the Arts.
In addition, she was recently named the 2017  melba cope community associate by the women's and gender studies program at the university of nebraska-lincoln.
Boesen currently has several original works in production in the united states and is RENOWN for creating projects which advocate for equity in the arts.  She specializes in the development of new works and theatre for youth audiences, providing expertise to both the lied center for performing arts and the lincoln arts council.  Boesen is  a proud member of ASCAP and of the Dramatists’ Guild of America.

 

Stephen buhler

Education Director, Humanities Advisor, Co-Founder, and Past Board Chair

Steve is Aaron Douglas Professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his doctoral degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Previously Director of the Medieval and Renaissance Studies program at UNL and research fellow at the Huntington and Folger Shakespeare Libraries, he has also served as actor, composer, director, dramaturg, musician, sound designer, and text editor for Flatwater Shakespeare and other theater ensembles. He has conducted workshops on the teaching and performance of Early Modern Drama and is the author of Shakespeare in the Cinema: Ocular Proof, along with several articles and book chapters on Renaissance literature and its connections with the performing arts.

Bob hall

Former Artistic Director, Co-Founder

Bob Hall graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Master of Arts in Theatre in 1969 and for the next 24 years worked in New York City as a theatre director. He is also a published playwright, with his co-adaptation of Dracula running Off Broadway for two years.  He was the Artistic Director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre from 1987 to 1992, and relocated to Lincoln in 1997.  He has been a comic book artist and writer since 1975, working for Marvel, DC, and Valiant.  Most recently he has shown his artwork at the Iron Tail and Eisentrager/Howard Galleries.  He is Founder and Artistic Director of The Flatwater Shakespeare Company.  He is married to Paula Ray.
